The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has handed a one-year ban to the trio of Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka for breaching the bio-bubble during the recent tour of England. The board has also fined them 10 million Sri Lanka Rupees.
Sri Lanka toured England last month, where all these three players were caught on camera while roaming around in Durham. They breached the bio-bubble protocol and all of them were send home midway from the tour.

On Thursday, a disciplinary committee headed by a retired judge advised a two-year ban on Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka while 18-months ban on Dickwella.
However, the committee decided to curb it to one-year ban for the trio on Friday. Meanwhile, they will be suspended for six months, initially, from participating in the domestic cricket. There will also be a suspended sentence of one year which will be valid for two years provided there is another transgression from the players.
The three charges that have been brought by the SLC are: “Putting in jeopardy the safety of players by breaching COVID-19 safety guidelines, including instructions of the team management.

“Also breaking the team curfew of being in their hotel rooms by 10:30 pm and last but not the least was bringing disrepute to the country and cricket board.”
The committee has also recommended mandatory counselling under a doctor recommended by the board.
Sri Lanka were without this trio during the recently-concluded series against India. After conceding the One-Day International series, Sri Lanka bounced back in a fine fashion to clinch the T20I series by winning the last two games. Dasun Shanaka was leading the team which showed good signs for the future.
