Sri Lankan Cricket is in hope to reintroduce Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) or a similar T20 masterpiece league from 2019. In their latest Future Tour Program (FTP), the board has left a window of three weeks open for a T20 tournament in August-September.
“We have talked about having a tournament like SLPL, but there is nothing concrete yet. It’s something we are looking at because in addition to giving our players a lot of exposure in T20, it can also help our finances. But we are just speculating at the moment,” an SLC official said.
SLPL came into existence in 2012 when several players participated in this league. However, the league couldn’t go any further as it didn’t give the board any profit and some fixing allegations made to its players. Lasith Maling got some similar offers from the bookies.
This league was canceled weeks before its second edition in 2013 and no other similar league happened since then.
