Smriti Mandhana has added another remarkable milestone to her already glittering career. On Thursday (March 5), the Indian batting star was named to the first-ever Barbie Dream Team, becoming the first cricketer in the world to receive a one-of-a-kind Barbie doll designed in her likeness. The recognition comes from Mattel, the company behind the iconic Barbie brand, and was announced ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8.

The initiative aims to celebrate women who are breaking barriers across different professions. Mandhana’s special Barbie doll has been created exclusively to honour her journey in cricket and will not be available for retail, making it a unique tribute to her achievements and influence in sport.

Mandhana is part of an elite global lineup in the inaugural Dream Team. The list includes renowned personalities such as tennis icon Serena Williams, astronaut Kellie Gerardi, racing driver Regina Sirvent Alvarado, England football star Chloe Kelly, singer Helene Fischer, climber Zoja Skubis and surfing champion Stephanie Gilmore. According to Mattel, the Dream Team celebrates women who have achieved breakthrough milestones and are inspiring future generations.

Reacting to the honour, Mandhana shared pictures of the doll on social media and admitted she was still absorbing the moment. The Indian star said that seeing a Barbie inspired by her own journey felt surreal and deeply meaningful. She also expressed hope that her story could encourage young girls to pursue their dreams in sport, especially cricket.

Mandhana’s influence in women’s cricket has grown significantly over the past few years. Currently serving as India’s vice-captain across formats, she is widely regarded as one of the finest batters in the modern game. The left-hander recently reclaimed the top spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings, underlining her consistency at the international level.
