Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly believes that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should be included in the Indian T20I team, as they still have a lot to contribute in the shortest format of the game. Ganguly highlighted Kohli’s impressive performance in the IPL 2023, where he scored over 600 runs, and stated that both Kohli and Rohit have a place in T20 cricket.

“Pick your best players, it doesn’t matter who they are. In my opinion, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma still have a place in T20I cricket, and I cannot see why a Kohli or a Rohit cannot play T20I cricket,” Sourav Ganguly expressed his views in an interview with RevSportz. He further emphasized Kohli’s form in the IPL and reiterated that both players deserve to be part of the T20I setup.

During Rohit’s absence, Hardik Pandya has been leading the Indian team in T20Is, and he will continue to do so in the upcoming series against West Indies.

Sourav Ganguly acknowledged that only a limited number of players can be selected in the squad, resulting in some big names missing out. However, he assured that players like Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Jitesh Sharma will have their chances in the future.

“They just have to keep playing. They will have to keep performing in whatever chances they get. It happens all the time. Only 15 can be picked in the squad, and 11 can play. So, somebody has to miss out. I am pretty sure their time will come,” Sourav Ganguly stated.

The West Indies tour will commence with a two-match Test series starting from July 12, followed by a three-match ODI series and a T20I series beginning on August 3.
