Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has embarked on a new chapter in his cricketing career by joining JSW Sports as the Director of Cricket. In this newly appointed role, Ganguly will oversee all cricket-related operations for the JSW Group, which includes managing the Delhi Capitals’ IPL and WPL teams, as well as the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league. Ganguly, who had been serving as the Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals until IPL 2024, will now focus on a broader set of responsibilities across the JSW Sports network.

The announcement was confirmed by both Ganguly and Parth Jindal, the owner of JSW Sports. Jindal, expressing his delight at the appointment, called Ganguly a key member of the JSW family. He praised Ganguly’s vast cricketing knowledge and strategic mind, highlighting how his guidance would greatly benefit the teams under the JSW umbrella.

“Dada has always had a special place at JSW Sports. For us, he is family first and then the cricketing icon that he is. I’ve said this in the past and it stands true even today – he is one of the sharpest brains in cricket, and we will always stand to benefit from his guidance and wisdom of the sport,” Parth Jindal remarked.

Ganguly, for his part, expressed his pleasure at joining JSW Sports in an elevated capacity. He noted his long-standing personal and professional relationship with the Jindal family and the JSW Group, calling the decision to accept the role an easy one. He commended JSW Sports for their visionary work in the cricketing sphere and expressed eagerness to lend his experience to their projects.

In Ganguly’s place at Delhi Capitals, former India cricketer Venugopal Rao has been appointed as the new Director of Cricket. Additionally, Hemang Badani has been named the team’s head coach for the upcoming IPL season, marking a new era for the franchise.

Though Ganguly will no longer have a direct role in the day-to-day operations of Delhi Capitals, he will still participate in the IPL auction, albeit in a limited capacity alongside JSW head Parth Jindal. The JSW and GMR groups, co-owners of Delhi Capitals, have agreed that GMR will manage the IPL franchise for the next two seasons (2025 and 2026).

Meanwhile, JSW will oversee the women’s team and the Pretoria Capitals during this period, with Ganguly continuing to guide cricket operations. This shift in Ganguly’s role aligns with the JSW Group’s timeline, as they will regain control of the Delhi Capitals’ operations in 2027. Until then, Ganguly’s focus will be on JSW’s cricketing projects where they retain control.
