Former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly, who is currently serving as the BCCI president has lauded the effort to “create” the Motera Cricket Stadium, the largest in the world. Just a few hours ahead of the pink-ball Test between India and England, Ganguly also acknowledged that he would miss being at the stadium on the day of the inauguration of the revamped stadium.

Further, Sourav Ganguly said that hosting pink-ball Tests was a dream for India and he would like to see the stands full, just how the stands of Eden Gardens were full when India hosted and played their first-ever day-night Test against Bangladesh. The former opener also thanked PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their vision and leadership.

In his tweet, Ganguly wrote: “Will miss being at the stadium today ..what an effort it must have been to create this ..pink test was our dream and it’s going be the 2nd one in india.hope to see full stands like last time. Under the leadership of Honble Prime minister @narendramodi Amit Shah @AmitShah.” Jay Shah, secretary of the BCCI, responded to Ganguly’s tweet. “Thank you Sourav bhai.I will miss your presence,” he tweeted.

50 percent of the crowd capacity will be allowed on each day of the Test but that is good enough to expect 55,000 people in attendance as Motera has the capacity to feature as many as 1,10,000 people.

Talking about the venue, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli said, “We’re proud to have the biggest cricket stadium in the world. The infrastructure is very good and we’re all really excited to play here. We feel the pressure too when we play abroad. Hoping for good support in the coming Tests.”

Motera is the only stadium in the world with 11 center pitches on the main ground. It also has 6 indoor pitches with bowling machines and 4 dressing rooms.
