BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has recently confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead India and not Hardik Pandya in the T20 World Cup 2024. However, Sourav Ganguly supported Rohit Sharma to lead in the T20 World Cup 2024.
However, he played an important role in handing over India T20 captaincy to Rohit after Virat Kohli stepped down as well. And as BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has confirmed Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team, as Ganguly believes he is still the “best choice” despite Hardik Pandya leading in most T20Is since 2022 as well.
“Rohit Sharma is the right choice as India captain for the T20 World Cup. The way he led the Indian team and won 10 matches in the 50-over World Cup is still fresh in our memory. So, Rohit was the best choice,” Mid-Day quoted Sourav Ganguly.
Although speculations were rife after India’s semifinal exit in T20 World Cup 2022 that Rohit Sharma might not lead the team but BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed Rohit Sharma will lead India in T20 World Cup 2024.
“We may have lost the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. But we won hearts thereby winning 10 matches in a row. I am confident that India will lift the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy at Barbados,” Jay Shah shared at a function in Rajkot to rename the stadium after former BCCI chief Niranjan Shah.
