The fate of the IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) remains uncertain amid conflicting reports. While multiple sources suggest the high-profile clash on April 6 could be moved from Kolkata to Guwahati due to Ram Navami celebrations, Sourav Ganguly’s recent comments have stirred hope that the game will remain at Eden Gardens.

Reports indicated that the Kolkata Police had informed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) about the potential security challenges posed by the festival. However, Ganguly, a former India captain and ex-BCCI president, dismissed these speculations during an event in Kolkata.
Referring to a social media post by the Kolkata Police, Ganguly seemed confident about the match proceeding as planned. “Just wait and watch what happens next. Have you seen Kolkata Police’s post yesterday? I don’t think the match will be shifted. And in the IPL, I’m supporting Delhi Capitals,” Sourav Ganguly said, as quoted by PTI.

The Kolkata Police further addressed the matter through their official account on X (formerly Twitter), clarifying that “misleading posts” regarding the match’s rescheduling were circulating. Their post emphasized the commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and confirmed that all deployment decisions prioritize public safety.

Interestingly, Sourav Ganguly’s comments came just days after his elder brother, Snehasish Ganguly — the president of CAB — stated that the association had requested the BCCI to reschedule the game.
Snehasish mentioned that if an alternative date in Kolkata wasn’t possible, the match could be moved to Guwahati. “If there’s no police protection, accommodating and managing a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible,” he explained.

Amid this back-and-forth, the BCCI is reportedly in discussions with the Kolkata Police to find a feasible solution. As it stands, the fate of the KKR-LSG encounter at Eden Gardens remains in limbo, with fans eagerly awaiting an official confirmation from the board. The uncertainty adds an intriguing subplot to what promises to be a thrilling contest between two competitive franchises.
