Former batting great Rahul Dravid is once again ready to don the role of the head coach for the Indian cricket team for the upcoming Sri Lanka series, confirmed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly recently.
“Rahul Dravid will be the coach for the India tour to Sri Lanka,” Ganguly told The Indian Express.
Notably, the Indian squad have started their 14-days quarantine in Mumbai on Monday as well. Rahul Dravid has already coached the India under-19 and India A teams a few years ago and he has worked in developing India’s bench strength as well.

While the confirmation came on the rest of the IPL 2021 season resuming in the UAE in September, Sourav Ganguly said that the board has written to the Indian government for tax exemption and the final call on whether to host it in India or UAE will be taken in near future as well.
“We have written to Indian government on tax exemption. We are awaiting for their response. We still have time. The board will take decision on it soon,” he explained.
Though the BCCI hasn’t made it official, they have also started working on the logistics on UAE hosting the upcoming mega event – T20 World Cup, as well as Oman, hosting the qualifiers of the championships also. It is also learnt that the board has blocked hotel bookings for the marquee event as well. International Cricket Council (ICC) and the BCCI have already approached Oman to host the World Cup qualifiers as well.

As far as India’s Sri Lanka tour is concerned, they will play three ODIs and as many T20Is as well. While Rahul Dravid will coach the team, it is Shikhar Dhawan who will lead the team and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to play his deputy. Notably, this the second string of Indian team as the main team is currently in England for the WTC Final and a five-match Test series against England.
