Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly and his Australia counterpart Steve Waugh shared a love-hate relationship especially during the historic series in 2001. On Monday, Ganguly took a dig on Waugh’s Instagram post which mentioned his playing for the fourth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) which begins on January 3.
The legendary Australian skipper posted his preferred Australia XI for the final Test at the SCG on Instagram. According to Waugh, Marcus Harris and veteran Shaun Marsh should open the batting, followed by compelling Usman Khawaja.
Waugh feels Travis Head, Australia’s leading run-scorer in the series against India so far, should bat at No.4 ahead of captain Tim Paine, Labuschagne, and Mitchell Marsh. Waugh’s preferred bowling unit would be Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood.

In the absence of Steven Smith and David Warner, Australian batting is suffering from the lack of experiences in international cricket. As an opener, Aaron Finch has majorly disappointed in this series but the head coach Justin Langer still has enough confidence in him. He said, “He got a 100-run partnership one Test match ago and that set up the whole Test match for us. Finch is a really good player and he is working harder probably than he has ever worked. He has got to somehow recharge his batteries over and over again.”
Earlier, Australia was outplayed by India during the third Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) which the tourists won by 137 to take a 2-1 lead in the four-match series. Now, both the teams will be locking horns for the final time in the series on January 3 a the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
