The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has provided further clarity on the injuries of Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma’s injuries ahead of the Australia series. He asserted that the support staff will do all they can to get both the superstar players fit and ready before the Test series.

India will be playing 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs in Australia from November 27 before the four-match Border-Gavaskar Test series from December 17 but there is yet to be clarity over the availability of two of its biggest players in Rohit and Ishant. Delhi Capitals pacer Ishant was ruled out of the IPL 2020 with a rib injury. He did not feature in the tournament even before the official announcement was made on October 12.

On the other hand, Rohit suffered a hamstring injury during IPL 2020 last month which made him miss four consecutive games, and was subsequently, not named in either the T20I, ODI, or Test squad for the Australian tour. KL Rahul has been named the deputy skipper of the white-ball teams in Rohit’s absence. But Rohit has played the last two matches for the Mumbai Indians (MI) which led to confusion among cricket fans and pundits as Rohit himself claimed to have recovered from his injury.

However, Ganguly has put his hand up and clarified that everything is being done to make sure that Rohit and Ishant both play the Tests in Australia. He explained, “Fingers crossed for Rohit, Ishant’s injury is not that serious. Rahul Dravid at the NCA is monitoring him they are working on his fitness. But BCCI has come out with this new rule that for a fast bowler has to play a four-day game and prove his fitness. Ishant will get 2 four-day games in Australia before the Test series.”

The former Indian skipper also put an end to all the controversies surrounding Rohit and Ishant’s exclusion by saying that the BCCI’s priority has always been to make sure that players get on the field in time.

Sourav Ganguly elaborated, “All must understand… The biggest job of everyone, whether its the board president, NCA head Dravid, Team India coach Ravi Shastri or captain Virat Kohli, it is to get players on the park not off it. If your best player is fit, he goes and plays. Today if Virat Kohli says ‘I’m fit’ won’t it be stupid to leave him in Mumbai and not take him to Australia? And BCCI will do everything to get Rohit on the park and see how it happens.”
