The BCI president, Sourav Ganguly returned to Sharjah – where he had shared a lot of fond memories during his playing days, as he took stock of preparations for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in UAE. Ganguly has been part of many memorable ODIs at the Sharjah Cricket Ground where he had amassed as many as 700 runs, including a century and 5 half-centuries. Ganguly, it seems, went down the memory lane, and applauded the new look of the ground, which is one of the 3 venues for IPL 2020.
Along with the IPL chairman, Brijesh Patel, and COO, Hemang Amin, Sourav Ganguly got a first-hand look of preparations in the lead up to IPL 2020. Ganguly took to social media to share photos from his visit to the iconic venue in Sharjah.

Sharjah is the 1st of the 3 venues that Ganguly has visited as he has been assessing the preparations at Dubai and Abu Dhabi as well, according to Gulf News. The BCCI president had landed in Dubai on September 9 and completed his mandatory quarantine period of 6 days before heading to Sharjah.

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium will be hosting 12 matches in IPL 2020. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be locking horns with each other in the 1st match of the tournament at the historic venue on September 22. It will host an afternoon match on October 4 wherein Mumbai Indians (MI) will be locking horns with (MI) Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Ganguly also said the youngsters, gearing up for IPL 2020, will be looking forward to playing at Sharjah where the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar have had some memorable outings.

The Sharjah stadium had recently undergone a major refurbishment, as they have also set-up new canopies, an upgraded royal suite, commentary box, and VIP Hospitality boxes. All these facilities have been made considering COVID-related protocols.
