Former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni is going through a rough patch in his career, especially in batting. Albeit he has been impressive behind the stumps and as a mentor, his batting has been way below-par and has sometimes became a roadblock to his team’s road to victory. Despite his poor form, MS is expected to play a crucial role in India’s quest to lift the coveted ICC World Cup next year in England and Wales.

Nevertheless, Dhoni has been dropped from the T20I squads for the series against the Windies as well against Australia. While most people has been taking it as a sensible decision by the selectors, a lot of them have spoken against it. In the meantime, Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian skipper, believes the move has seems logical because of the fact that Dhoni won’t play until the 2020 World T20 in Australia.

During a show on India TV, Sourav said, “I am not surprised that MS Dhoni has been dropped from the T20 squad because his performance hasn’t been great. If you see the 2020 World T20, I don’t think Dhoni will play that far and that’s why the selectors have given chance to Rishabh Pant who is in a good form.”

He further added, “I have one issue here… I feel if the selectors are going to stick with Dhoni till the 2019 World Cup, then I think he should be given enough matches. He doesn’t play domestic cricket so after the last ODI against West Indies, Dhoni will next play in Australia in the ODI series and after that against New Zealand. That’s a long gap in cricket.”

Dhoni is currently playing with the men in blue in the ongoing five-match ODI series against the Windies and has played a couple of cameos. India is expected to play quite a few ODIs from now onwards against Australia and New Zealand, and the veteran cricketer is most likely to be a part of the squads. It’s indeed high time that Dhoni gets his form back before the mega event next year.
