Gujarat Titans delivered a clinical all-round performance on Sunday, April 6, as they outplayed Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in front of a packed crowd at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The Titans looked in complete control from the toss to the final ball, showcasing their depth and balance once again in this IPL season. Following the dominant win, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly took to social media to heap praise on Gujarat’s head coach, Ashish Nehra.
Ganguly, in a post that has since gone viral, lauded Gujarat Titans’ cricketing approach and highlighted Nehra’s sharp tactical acumen. He praised how the team has carried forward its consistency since debuting in the IPL and credited Nehra for instilling a strong cricketing brain into the setup.

“I really like the way Gujarat has gone about their work in the IPL since their very first season. There’s a lot of cricketing intelligence in their setup. Ashish Nehra has truly displayed his value as a head coach with tremendous game sense,” Sourav Ganguly posted on X.

The former left-arm pacer was part of Ganguly’s Indian team back in the early 2000s and has often acknowledged the role Ganguly played in shaping his outlook on leadership. In a candid interview with CRED in 2021, Nehra reflected on the lessons he took from his former captain.
“One of the most important things I learned from Dada was how to stay composed, no matter the situation. I would sometimes get frustrated or emotional on the field, and he’d let it pass. But later in the evening, he’d calmly call me and say, ‘Arre Ashu, what are you doing? Come to my room,’” Ashish Nehra had shared.

Nehra had also mentioned that Ganguly had a rare ability to separate on-field emotion from personal relationships and never carried grudges, a quality that clearly reflects in Nehra’s own calm, player-friendly coaching style.
Under Nehra’s guidance, the Gujarat Titans have made a strong start to their IPL 2025 campaign, winning three out of their first four matches. With a solid net run-rate of +1.031, they currently sit second on the points table, just behind the unbeaten Delhi Capitals.
