Sourav Ganguly Offers Insights On Dhruv Jurel’s Rise And MS Dhoni’s Legacy

Dhruv Jurel has emerged as a rising star following his impactful performances in the Ranchi Test, earning accolades and even drawing comparisons to cricketing legend MS Dhoni. The 23-year-old played a crucial role in India’s series-clinching victory, contributing significantly with his resilient 90-run innings and forming a match-winning partnership with Shubman Gill.

Former India captain and spin legend Anil Kumble praised Jurel’s performance, stating that the young wicketkeeper-batsman showcased standards reminiscent of MS Dhoni. However, another former captain, Sourav Ganguly, offered a different perspective.

Sourav Ganguly acknowledged Jurel’s talent but emphasized that reaching Dhoni’s level took 15 years of hard work. He urged everyone to allow Jurel the time to develop as it’s just the beginning of his career.

“Obviously, Jurel has talent, but Dhoni is in a different league. It took him 15 years to be MS Dhoni. So let him [Jurel] play,”Sourav  Ganguly advised. He highlighted Jurel’s abilities, including playing spin and handling pace, along with performing under pressure, indicating the youngster’s promising temperament.

While praising Jurel, Ganguly also sounded a warning for Ishan Kishan, who has been away from the cricket scene for unknown reasons. Ganguly stressed the significance of domestic cricket and the IPL as platforms for young players to flourish. He cautioned Kishan to be careful as missing out on opportunities could make a comeback challenging, especially with the abundance of talent in the country.

“I think Ranji Trophy and IPL are the formats for youngsters to become so good. Dhruv Jurel, what a Test match he had under pressure on a difficult wicket. As I said, there is huge talent, and if you miss out and if you go behind down the ladder, it’ll be very hard to come back. And something which someone like Ishan Kishan should be very careful of because he’s young, he wants to play and there’s so much talent in this country,” Sourav Ganguly concluded.
