Sourav Ganguly Opines India Needs To Be Aggressive In T20Is

Former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly reckons that India has to play an aggressive brand of cricket if they want to succeed in the ICC tournaments, especially in the T20Is. Ganguly, who is known for transforming the Indian team in the 2000s told The Times of India in an interview that India has the team to play aggressive cricket and has to change their approach in big tournaments.

During a recent conversation with TOI, Sourav Ganguly said, “India have to play aggressively, especially in T20s. They have the team to do that. Indian cricket will always have talent and a big pool. It’s the ones who are hungrier who go to the next level. It’s about how you prepare for the big tournaments.”

Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper, Hardik Pandya has taken over the reins in the T20I format with veteran players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being given rest with the ODI World Cup scheduled to be played this year. Ganguly said that he sees Pandya as the next captain in the T20I format given his brilliant performances in the Indian Premier League.

Elaborating the same, Sourav Ganguly said, “The IPL is a good breeding ground. We have seen how well Hardik Pandya has captained in the IPL. That’s one of the reasons why he has been captaining India in the shorter formats also. You can’t ignore wins and losses in the IPL because it’s a very tough tournament.”

India has not won an ICC tournament since the 2013 Champions Trophy, a team that was under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The Indian team was knocked out in the Super-12 stages in the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE and was defeated by England in the 2022 T20 World Cup, held in Australia.
