Sourav Ganguly Praises India For Registering Series Leveling Win

The BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday showered praises on the team for their series-leveling win against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The stand-in skipper, Ajinkya Rahane led from the front as India defeated Australia in the second Test of the four-match series to keep the competition leveled at 1-1.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President took to Twitter to deliver a congratulatory message for their performance in Melbourne. Ganguly also highlighted India’s other star performers in the game – Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. He tweeted, “A special win at MCG ..india loves playing here ..well done Ajinkya rahane @ajinkyarahane88 ..good people finish first too.. congratulations to all.. @imjadeja @ashwinravi99. best of luck for the next 2 games”.

India registered a comfortable 8-wicket win in Melbourne earlier on Tuesday to level the series at 1-1. Ajinkya Rahane’s 12th Test century helped the visitors in the Boxing Day Test, after they collapsed to their lowest ever Test score of 36 runs in the Adelaide match.

After Australia won the toss and chose to bat, brilliant performances from Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin saw the hosts crumble to a meager score of 195. Rahane’s valiant 112, with support from Ravindra Jadeja – who scored a fighting 57 – and Test debutant Shubman Gill – who scored a quick 45 in the first innings – helped India score 326.

India lost the services of Umesh Yadav to injury in the second innings, but managed to bowl Australia out for 200, leaving them 70 to chase.

Shubman Gill played an unbeaten knock of 35 off 36 deliveries as India chased down the total with eight wickets to spare. The two teams will now be locking horns with each other in the third Test beginning on January 7 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
