Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly was in full praises for stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma, who scored a record-breaking third double ton against Sri Lanka in Mohali. Ganguly hailed him and said it wouldn’t be justice to only praise Virat Kohli as the greatest ODI batsman as Rohit is not too behind him.
Sharma has scored 6 hundreds in this 2017 calendar year and equals Kohli in this tally. Also, he overtook Virender Sehwag to become fourth highest ODI century maker for India. This was his 11th ODI ton since the completion of World Cup 2015 and Kohli has the same number of centuries as well. Thus, Rohit is also playing a very big role in India’s success but is not getting so much of limelight for his contribution.
Ganguly quoted to India Today “This year, he’s scored as many hundreds as Virat Kohli. We keep talking about Virat Kohli and how great he is in one day cricket but look at Rohit. He is no way behind, 11 hundreds in 50 odd innings (since 2015).”
“I have always said that he’s a terrific batsman and a match-winner. Hopefully, he can transform his renewed hunger for runs, his renewed ability to convert hundreds into double hundreds in the next 10 months. The shots he played was absolutely breathtaking,” he concluded.
India won the second ODI against Sri Lanka by 141 runs and leveled the series. Now both teams will meet in the series decider in Vizag on 17 December.
