Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has strongly voiced his opinion that India should immediately sever all ties with Pakistan following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 innocent lives. Speaking to the media in Kolkata, Ganguly emphasised the urgent need for strict action, noting that terrorism cannot be normalised or tolerated year after year.

“One hundred percent, this should be done. Strict action is necessary. It is no joke that such things happen every year. Terrorism cannot be tolerated,” he said.

Tensions between the two nations have sharply escalated since the attack. On Thursday night, Pakistan troops resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (Loc), prompting swift retaliation from Indian forces. Military sources confirmed that firing continued for a second consecutive night, though no casualties were reported.

In a series of strong retaliatory measures, India suspended the 65-year-old Indus Waters Treaty, closed the Attari land border crossing, and expelled Pakistani military attachés. Pakistani nationals who entered India via the Attari route have also been ordered to leave by May 1. In response, Pakistan announced it would shut its airspace to Indian airlines and suspend trade, even through third countries.
The fallout could soon spill into the sporting world as well. With cross-border tensions worsening, the broadcast of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is now under threat. Several experienced Indian crew members working in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s broadcast operations are expected to be pulled out, raising serious concerns about the PSL’s upcoming coverage.

Diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan have been strained for years, with no bilateral cricket series since India’s 2008 tour of Pakistan. Now, following this latest tragedy and subsequent military and diplomatic escalation, even sporting ties, once seen as a bridge between the two nations, seem increasingly unlikely to survive the growing divide.
