Former South Africa batter AB de Villiers has supported South Africa to beat Australia in the World Test Championship Final, taking place at Lord’s Stadium later in June. However, South Africa have reached the WTC Final for the first time and they will be taking on the defending champions Australia as well.

However, South Africa qualified for the final of the WTC after beating Sri Lanka and Pakistan at home, while India failed to be in the race after losing two back-to-back series against New Zealand and Australia as well.
“This is a massive moment for South African cricket—a final at Lord’s. The entire nation will be behind our team, and hopefully, we can cross the line,” AB de Villiers told Star Sports ahead of the final. “I’m excited for the challenge. It’s a well-balanced side, and I’m quietly confident we can upset Australia. I say ‘upset’ because they’re clearly the favourites for this ICC World Test Championship Final,” he added.

However, AB de Villiers also said Australia is a very experienced and well-oiled machine of a team and they also felt it would not be easy for South Africa to beat them as well.

“Australia are a very experienced, well-oiled machine of a team. It won’t be easy for South Africa. But I’m quietly confident because we’re going there with many in-form players and big-hearted guys who have something to prove on this stage,” he again shared.
AB de Villiers also spoke about the final being the first match at Lord’s for many of these players as well and he also hoped they would adjust with the condition as well.
“For many of these players, it’ll be their first match at Lord’s—hopefully, they’ll settle quickly. But I’m really looking forward to this contest. It’s going to be fantastic cricket—after all, it’s a final, and both teams have earned their place here,” AB de Villiers concluded.
