South Africa women’s cricketers Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp got married on last Sunday (July 7). The 25-year-old Niekerk is an all-rounder and skipper of the national team while the 28-year-old Kapp is also an all-rounder.
After New Zealand women’s cricketers Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu tied the knot in last May, Niekerk and Kapp become the second international women cricketer duo to get married.

Kapp announced their marriage news by posting its pictures on her Instagram account.
Both made their international cricket debut during the 2009 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. Niekerk has played only Test, 95 ODIs and 68 T20Is while Kapp has played only Test, 93 ODIs and 62 T20Is. Niekerk has scored 3,261 runs and also has taken 175 wickets in her international cricket career while Kapp has scored 2,237 runs and also has taken 147 wickets in her international career.
In the latest ODI all-rounder ranking, Niekerk is at the third position while Kapp is at the sixth position. On the other hand, Niekerk and Kapp are at the fourth and 15th positions respectively in the latest T20I all-rounder ranking.

They were the first two women cricketers to be included in the Eastern Province Cricket Academy, where both trained alongside the male cricketers.
Kapp is a multi-talented sportswoman who represented her province in netball, athletics, biathlon and lifesaving too.
In 2015, former Australian woman cricketer Alex Blackwell married former English woman cricketer Lynsey Askew. As the same-sex marriage was not legalized at that time, the marriage ceremony took place in England.
In 2017, Australian top-order batswoman Elyse Villani announced that she is lesbian.
Just prior to the legalization of same-sex marriage in Australia in December 2017, another Australian woman cricketer Megan Scutt posted a ‘Yes’ vote along with a kissing picture with her partner Jess Holyoake.
