India’s cricket team is demonstrating their resourcefulness and creativity during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. After a remarkable victory against New Zealand at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, the team found a unique way to celebrate. Following the game, fielding coach T Dilip addressed the dressing room, commending the tremendous efforts that had propelled them to the top of the World Cup 2023 points table.

This significant victory over New Zealand was India’s first in an ICC tournament against the BlackCaps in two decades. T Dilip specifically highlighted the pivotal moments in the match, particularly Shreyas Iyer’s stunning low catch that dismissed Devon Conway. The coach praised the relentless energy displayed by Mohammed Siraj and the consistent performance by skipper Virat Kohli, which contributed to restricting New Zealand to a total of 273.

Although there were a few dropped catches by the Indian fielders, T Dilip praised their overall fielding performance, considering the challenging outfield conditions at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

The post-match celebrations had an unexpected twist. T Dilip didn’t announce the ‘best fielder’ medal recipient in the dressing room as expected. Instead, he called upon the players to gather on the field. To their delight, the spider camera descended from the heights with the ‘best fielder’ medal and the player’s photo hanging around it.

Shreyas Iyer was the well-deserved recipient of the honor on this occasion, and the entire team was thrilled to see the spider cam join in the celebrations. Throughout the match, when Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra were forming a formidable partnership in the middle, it appeared that New Zealand might set a target well above 300 runs.

However, India’s pacers elevated their performance during the death overs, effectively limiting the BlackCaps to a score of 273. Notably, Mohammed Shami delivered a standout performance, achieving his second five-wicket haul in World Cup history.

The team’s next challenge is a showdown against the reigning world champions, England, in their upcoming match in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29.
