Sports Minister Anurag Thakur Celebrates India’s World Cup Win With Rohit Sharma

Sports minister Anurag Thakur was present at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala as India defeated New Zealand for their fifth win in a row in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He later shared a clip of his meeting with India captain Rohit Sharma after the hard-fought win. After a close contest, Thakur and Rohit hugged each other and exchanged pleasantries.

In his post, Thakur wrote, “Champion vibes only! Celebrating with the legend Rohit Sharma after Team India’s stellar World Cup triumph over New Zealand!” Fans celebrated the victory in the comment section. One of the fans simply congratulated India on their win and wrote, “Congratulations Team Bharat”.

 

 

Another fan said, “A big round of applause to our cricket team for winning today’s World Cup match against New Zealand. Kudos to Virat Kohli for his stellar performance that led to his glory. 95 runs off 103 balls is a masterclass in batting under pressure. The country stands by you on your path to winning.#WorldCup2023.”

 

 

India and New Zealand faced each other at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on October 22. In the past few ICC tournaments, India haven’t been able to beat the Black Caps. This included the 2019 World Cup semi-final exit in Manchester.

The Men in Blue were able to shake the ghosts of the past as they put up a stellar performance against the two-time World Cup runners-up. In the first innings, a fiery Mohammed Shami scalped five wickets to curb the Kiwis at a total of 273. During India’s batting, an in-form Virat Kohli smashed 95 runs to seal an impressive four-wicket victory for his team.

India’s victory over New Zealand was a significant one, as it took them to the top of the World Cup points table. India are now in a strong position to qualify for the semi-finals, and they will be looking to maintain their momentum in the matches to come.
