Lalit Modi and Michael Clarke recently reignited one of the most controversial moments in Indian cricket history by releasing unseen footage of the infamous “slapgate” incident between Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth from the 2008 IPL season. The video quickly went viral, sparking a renewed discussion on the altercation that rocked the cricket world.

Following the resurfacing of this old footage, Sreesanth’s wife, Bhuvneshwari, strongly condemned the actions of Modi and Clarke, accusing them of exploiting the incident for personal gain. She took to her Instagram story to express her anger, calling the release of the video “cheap” and “disgusting.” She also emphasised that both Sreesanth and Harbhajan had long since moved on from the incident and had reconciled.

“Shame on you Lalit Modi and Michael Clarke. You people are not even human to drag up something from 2008 just for your own cheap publicity and views,” Bhuvneshwari wrote. “Both Sreesanth and Harbhajan have long moved on, they are fathers now with school-going children, and yet you try to throw them back into an old wound. Absolutely disgusting, heartless, and inhuman.”

She further explained how her husband had faced numerous challenges throughout his cricket career, but he overcame them with dignity and grace. Bhuvneshwari expressed that the resurfacing of this incident is especially harmful to their families, particularly their children, who are now forced to face public scrutiny without having been involved in any wrongdoing.

“Sreesanth has rebuilt his life with dignity and grace after every hardship he faced. As his wife, and as the mother of his children, it is deeply painful for our family to see this resurface after 18 long years,” she added. “Families are being forced to relive trauma that was buried decades ago only so you can chase views. This doesn’t just hurt the players; it scars their innocent children, who now have to face questions and shame for no fault of theirs.”

She concluded with a call for accountability, suggesting that Modi and Clarke should be held legally responsible for their actions. “Sreesanth is a man of strength and character, and no video can take that dignity away from him. Fear God before you hurt families and innocent children for your own gain,” Bhuvneshwari’s final statement read.
