After having a poor start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 campaign, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) sacked David Warner from the captaincy. However, SRH announced Kane Williamson as their new captain. While many expected this is coming, it didn’t go down well with others as well.
Notably, David Warner led SRH to their title win in 2016. Meanwhile, they also added that they will make some changes to their overseas combination which will start from Sunday when they will take on Rajasthan Royals. It is also noteworthy that, Warner has been one of the key players for SRH throughout the years and also one of IPL’s highest scorers as well.

He has amassed over 500 runs in each of the last six seasons and won the Orange Cap thrice between 2015 and 2019 as well, which is also more than any other player in the history of the cash-rich league. Being such a classy player, David Warner has a solid fan base and they took to Twitter to back their favourite star.

When all the hopes were down, he was the biggest hope for SRH and won matches single-handedly from nowhere. Still get left out of the team for two bad games despite carrying the team throughout their history.

Fans also questioned the SRH management’s decision about this as David Warner is alone to be blamed for their poor show this season. Notably, David Warner became SRH captain in 2015 and during his four years of captaincy in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2020, SRH reached the playoffs thrice and won the title in 2016 as well.
Notably, David Warner is the most successful overseas batsman in the history of the league with 5,447 runs from 148 matches which came at an average of 42.22 and strike rate of 140.13. He is the only IPL player to score 50 half-centuries in the tournament as well.

However, in their official statement, SRH said, “SunRisers Hyderabad would like to announce that Kane Williamson will be taking over the captaincy for tomorrow’s match and for the remainder of IPL 2021. The team management has also made the decision that they will be changing their overseas combination for tomorrow’s match against Rajasthan Royals.”
