India’s Ace shuttler, who in March 2018 fulfilled the ultimate feat of topping the world rankings, Srikanth Kidambi had a dream. Kidambi, who trains at the Gopichand Academy has taken his game to the absolute peak in the last few years. The badminton player was also awarded the Padma Shri for his excellent performances in various tournaments including the Commonwealth Games.
India, however, is the country that is still dominated by one sport, Cricket. The best Indian cricketers have the status of demi-god. After Sachin Tendulkar being the first god, now Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have joined to form a holy trinity. Kidambi is no exception to the fandom and he is a superfan of the Captain Cool MS Dhoni. Kidambi had expressed his desire to receive a gift from Dhoni.

After expressing this desire to MSK Prasad, head of selectors, he promised to hand Kidambi an autographed bat from MS Dhoni if Kidambi manages to clinch the top spot in Shuttle arena. Srikanth had an excellent season which saw him rise to the top of the rankings in April. He won tournaments all over the world in 2017. He became only the second Indian after legendary shuttler Prakash Padukone to be the number one in Men’s world ranking.
