Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming has applauded Kieron Pollard for his blistering knock against CSK that led Mumbai Indians to a convincing win as well. However, the CSK coach didn’t seem too worried about the loss against Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in Delhi on Saturday as well. Mumbai Indians chased down 219 runs on Pollard’s unbeaten 87 off 34 balls off the final ball to win by 4 wickets.

Pollard hit 8 sixes and 6 boundaries to pull off one of the most stunning chases in the league. The 33-year-old West Indies all-rounder’s onslaught helped Mumbai chase down the highest successful chase on India in the league. While praising Pollard’s knock after the match, Fleming said that his team “got undone by a fine innings” by the all-rounder.

“(Kieron) Pollard is such a good timer of the ball that you never know what he is going to do. There is so much that went on, we were just hoping for some red lights (direct hits) with the stumps, or a result we had when we got beaten in the final. Its one of Pollard’s best innings in the IPL for a long time. He’s an effective player but he’s done it for a long time. He was the mainstay, we did a lot of good things around him but we just couldn’t shut him down,” Stephen Fleming told reporters.

“From a team point of view, we got past 200 as a batting unit, we held in there and got some wickets… we put pressure on them and we were undone by a fine innings. We had our chances, no doubt about it and that’s the fine margins that the IPL is about. We will go back and analyse. We can get better, we’ve done pretty well. We are still very confident going into the next game. It’s just the nature of the tournament, if you are going to get beaten then you are going to ask the opposition to play pretty well and they (MI) did tonight,” Stephen Fleming concluded.

The three-time IPL title winner will next take on Rajasthan Royals at the same venue on May 5.
