The ball-tampering incident has shaken the Australian cricket from its roots. The Australian cricket board has imposed bans on Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft. The national coach Darren Lehmann has resigned too. In an emotional press conference conducted yesterday, Steve Smith poured his heart out and apologized to the nation and asked for forgiveness. It was a very sad sight to see the number one Test batsman getting such treatment.
When after the third’s day play in the Third Test between Australia and South Africa, the Australian Test captain confessed to cheating and using illegal methods to damage the ball, the outrage was unbelievable. Australia, who has a strong image as a sporting nation, came out on all mediums possible to register their anguish and disappointment.

Watching the national hero go down like this was severe for almost everyone viewing it. Kids were the most affected as they saw their batting hero being trialed as if he had committed a murder. An Australian journalist, whose son cried for almost half-hour, posted her feeling on Twitter.
Just spent 20 minutes consoling my crying 9 year old who is a major Steve Smith fan after he watched the press conference. Encouraging him and all kids to write Steve a letter telling him how much you love and admire him.

The tweet went viral as people could relate to the feeling and understand what a small kid must be going through. Deborah Knight, the mum, urged all kids to write a letter to Steve Smith and let him know that they still love him.
Knight received a pleasant surprise today when Steve Smith himself contacted her via a personal message and asked her to personally apologize to her son on Smith’s behalf. Knight was very glad to receive the reply and she promptly acknowledged the gesture. Here’s the screenshot posted by her.
