The veteran Australian cricketer, Steve Smith finally got his form back by scoring his 27th Test century to end a 16-month wait on Day 2 of the ongoing third Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday. Smith whipped off his helmet and flourished his bat after the century to announce that Australia’s best batsman was back among runs.

Steve Smith was a delighted man after getting back into runs and his latest social media post was the testimony to the same one of his ‘post 100 traditions’ with wife Dani Willis after the end of play on Day 2. Smith took to Facebook stories to post a picture of ice cream with tv running in the background.

Smith’s 131 was the first century for an Australian batsman in the ongoing four-match series and it also helped the hosts to reach the tally of 338 in their first innings of the third Test, 138 runs better than their best effort in the two previous tests.

The 31-year-old said he had been unimpressed by reports of his loss of form — pointing to the couple of centuries he scored in ODI series one-day matches against the tourists at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in November — but was proud nonetheless.

Talking about the same, Steve Smith said, “I missed out in the first two tests but I came back today and scored some runs and put us in a good position … Just proud to get three figures on the board and help Australia to a good score.”

Steve Smith was under a lot of pressure heading into the match but he has answered his critics with his bat. India had ground out 96 for two in reply before the close of play on Friday but Smith was confident Australia was in a good position as they look to take a 2-1 series lead into the final Test in Brisbane next week.
