The former skipper and the disgraced Australian cricketer Steve Smith is looking forward to returning to the field of cricket in the Global T20 League in Canada. He has been drafted in the tournament having been approached to play by the organizers. Even Cricket Australia (CA) has allowed him to play domestic cricket outside the country. However, Smith has decided to donate all of is earnings to grassroots cricket programs in Australia as well as in Canada.
Smith was suspended by CA for a long period of 12 months along with his deputy David Warner for their role in the infamous ball-tampering scandal in March. Even Cameron Bancroft, who tampered with the ball in the Cape Town Test has been banned for 9 months. The national squad will be without their crucial cogs across all the formats as they will only return a few months before the World Cup.
