Australia failed to clinch a win in the first ODI in Chennai against India though the team started off well. Nathan Coulter Nile and Adam Zampa’s spell ripped apart India’s opening and middle order. But Pandya and Dhoni’s partnership of 100 runs made India reach to a good score at last.

Later rain interrupted the game lessening the number of overs and Aussies failed miserably under the spin attack led by Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.  “We had them at 5 for 87 and let things off a bit. MS and Hardik had a great, match-winning partnership. The new ball was stopping and some skidded on. We lost too many wickets in the middle. You can’t control the weather. No complaints, we weren’t good enough and we were outplayed by India. I thought Cummins and Coulter-Nile bowled very well in the new ball and hopefully, they can back it up in a couple of days’ time. It was a tough wicket with the new ball, and then we went away from our plans too early.” said Smith.

The motivation and dedication of the Aussie skipper has not deemed as the team arrived in Kolkata, Smith posted a picture of his arrival in Kolkata at Instagram.

Though it has been raining in Kolkata for last few days and the covers are on but  CAB pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee said,“The pitch and ground conditions is just perfect. It’s an ideal condition what’s required for a One-Day International contest but I cannot say whether it will rain or not.”
