The disgraced Australian cricketer, Steve Smith is arguably the best batsman in his country among the current bunch of cricketers. His unorthodoxy captured the imaginations of many and he is touted to be a modern-day great at least in Test cricket. However, fate had something else in store for the Aussie.
Steve was found guilty of involvement in the ball tampering during a Test match in South Africa. Subsequently, he was handed a ban of a year from international and domestic cricket by Cricket Australia (CA), headed by James Sutherland.
Following his suspension, Smith apologized for all of his wrongdoings in a press conference. Recently, he was anointed as a special guest at the Sydney’s Knox Grammar School’s year six and senior school assembly, as part of the students’ Gotcha 4 Life Foundation.

During the meet, Steve talked about the mental trauma he went through. He said, “To be honest, I probably spent four days in tears. I was really struggling mentally and I was really lucky that I had some close friends and family members that I could speak to at all hours of the day. The people that I had supporting me through that whole time made a huge difference to the headspace I am in now.”
Smith will now play for the Toronto Nationals in the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada league which starts on June 28. He will have former Australian cricketer Tom Moody as the team’s coach. The likes of Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard Kamran Akmal, and Kesrick Williams are part of the team as well.
While expressing the eagerness to play the Canadian tournament, Smith said, “Really excited to be a part of GT20 Canada. Thanks to the Winnipeg Hawks for selecting me to play in what will be a really competitive tournament. Prep steps up this week in the nets.’
