Steven Smith Breaks Down in His First Media Interaction in Australia

The sacked Australian Test captain Steve Smith broke down in tears while speaking at his first media interaction upon landing in Australia. It was a very painful sight to see number one Test batsman displaying such remorse for actions which other players concede match fee reduction. Speaking in Sydney with his father as company Steve Smith expressed his regrets at the whole incident and accepted full responsibility for the same.

Steve Smith has been banned for a year by Cricket Australia

After confessing that the ‘leadership group’ conspired to alter the ball condition to obtain an unfair advantage in the Cape Town Test, Steve Smith was immediately sacked from the Test captaincy post. On further investigation, Cricket Australia found him guilty and announced a year ban also the rider of captaincy ban for the next two years.

The tainted Australian batsman returned to Australia today and faced the media in his home city, Sydney. In his speech, he accepted the complete responsibility for this incident as the Australian captain also that he was extremely regretful and sad about what transpired in South Africa. 

In a moving confession, Smith said,“I want to, as captain of the Australian cricket team, I take full responsibility. I made a serious error in judgment. It was a failure of leadership, my leadership. I will do everything I can to make up for my mistake and the damage it’s caused. If any good is to come from this it can be a lesson for others and I hope I can be a force for change.

He further added,“Cricket is the greatest sport in the world. It‘s been my life and I hope it can be again. I‘m sorry and I‘m absolutely devastated.

When asked about David Warner’s role in this whole tragedy, Smith said, “I don’t blame anyone. I‘m the captain of the Australian team. It’s on my watch and I take responsibility for what happened last Saturday.

Steve Smith broke down in tears when he spoke about the effects these all happenings have had on his parents. There was no way he could have continued after this. He ended by saying, “I just want to say sorry for the pain I‘ve brought to Australia, to the fans and the public.

As Steve Smith got up and walked away, someone from the crowd cheered, “We love you, Steve!“. A million fans still do, Steve.
