Former India and Rising Pune Supergiant captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, might not be the official captain of the Pune franchise in the Indian Premier League but is still one of the main persons, who is involved in their decisions on the field.

In last night’s match against Mumbai Indians, captain Steven Smith was seen in an on-field discussion with Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane during an over break. In what a decent target for the Mumbai Indians, even a Rohit Sharma-special could not take them past the loss. They eventually lost the match by 3 runs.

In the post-match conference, Rahane revealed as to what exactly was the discussion about after the penultimate over. “After the 19th over, when (Steve) Smith, I and Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) were discussing who should bowl between Shardul and Jaydev (Unadkat), we picked up Jaydev. Shardul has good pace and we didn’t want to give batsman the pace in the last over,” Rahane revealed.

“Jaydev’s pace is comparatively lesser than Shardul and his slower ball is effective. The wicket was also little slow and Rohit (Sharma) was a set batsman, so our point was not to give them pace. “One side of the ground is small and one or two shots in the last over (could have made the difference). That was the planning in the last over.”
