As the first Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test enters its penultimate day at Headingley, the momentum appears to be tilting slightly in India’s favour. Thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant five-wicket haul (5/83) and a steady batting effort led by KL Rahul, the visitors ended Day 3 with a 96-run lead and eight wickets in hand.

Former England pacer Stuart Broad, speaking to Sky Sports, acknowledged India’s upper hand, while also suggesting that England will push for a win regardless of the risks.

“I think India has a slight edge. The pitch is a lot more worn and cracked than you’d expect on Day 4. If I were in the Indian camp, I’d aim for another 250 runs to set up a total of 350. Headingley is usually a good batting wicket, but this time, with the heat and spin, things look different,” he said.

England had earlier ridden on Ollie Pope’s composed 106 and Harry Brook’s aggressive 99 to post 465, erasing most of India’s first-innings total of 471. However, the late evening session saw India’s top order hold firm, with KL Rahul unbeaten on 47, mixing caution with style.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain reflected on India’s batting collapse, where they lost 7 wickets for just 41 runs. “India will be a little disappointed they didn’t stretch that total past 500. But the way they contained England late on Day 3 was critical,” he said.

Adding to the anticipation, former Australia cricketer Mel Jones commented on the match’s balance. “It’s been a great Test so far with standout individual efforts. Now, it’s about which team steps up collectively. With India looking to push ahead and England always willing to gamble for a win, we’re in for an exciting finish over the next two days.”
