Stuart Broad is set to return to the cricketing spotlight, but this time in a completely new avatar. The former England pace spearhead, who retired after the dramatic 2023 Ashes series, has been roped in as a consultant for South Africa ahead of their highly anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025 clash against Australia at Lord’s.

This marks Broad’s first official foray into coaching since he called time on his playing career. The final is scheduled to be held from June 11 to 15 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. Before the showdown, South Africa will warm up with a four-day match against Zimbabwe at the Arundel Castle Cricket Ground in Sussex, running from June 3 to 6.

Stuart Broad is expected to join the Proteas’ setup on June 9 to help fine-tune their preparations. Broad’s Test career was nothing short of legendary. In 167 matches, he picked up 604 wickets — the second-most by a fast bowler in history, trailing only his long-time new-ball partner, James Anderson.

His dominance over Australia is particularly notable, with 153 wickets against them, more than any other bowler has taken against the reigning WTC champions. Known for his knack of delivering in big moments, Broad’s 8/15 against Australia at Trent Bridge in 2015 and his 10-wicket match haul in his farewell Ashes Test remain etched in cricketing memory.

Stuart Broad was also a part of England’s 2010 T20 World Cup-winning squad and remained their leading T20I wicket-taker for several years before Adil Rashid took over. Now, with the Lord’s final looming, South Africa will hope Broad’s experience and strategic insight will provide the edge they need to claim their first-ever ICC title.
