If not the best, Kolkata Knight Riders is certainly considered to be one of the best team as far as fielding is concerned. However, their current status on the field is lowering their standards drastically. Knight Riders have been dropping catches and giving away boundaries and overthrows. Rishi Dhawan, Sunil Narine, Piyush Chawla and Umesh Yadav are some of the casualties of poor fielding.

It can happen to anybody. Such is the game. The support staff would be looking to rectify the issue, if there is any, in order to improve their fielding. What happened on the last ball of today’s innings was both hilarious and exemplary of what the Knights have up to on the field.

Varun Aaron hit a Chris Woakes delivery in the air, not distance but air. Gautam Gambhir was at covers and it seemed a fairly simple catches from the onset. Gambhir, who generally has a safe pair of hands, fumbled the catch on the first attempt, and then on the second attempt, and then on the third one, only to catch it on the fourth trial.

The smile on his face was displayed the relief that a captain should have after leading his troops from the front. On a bad fielding day, the last thing what the team would have wanted was the captain himself dropping a catch. Gambhir, however unconvincingly, managed to pouch on the catch. Gambhir’s former opening partner for India and a very close friend, Virender Sehwag, was found laughing on the opposition team’s bench.
