Subramaniam Badrinath Points The Importance Of MS Dhoni’s Captaincy

Former Indian batsman, Subramaniam Badrinath recently expressed his experience of the leadership skills of MS Dhoni, saying the latter instills a different amount of trust in a player. Badrinath played under the leadership of MS Dhoni for six editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he revealed that MS believed he was good and also believed in roles for each player.

During a chat with Hindustan Times, Badrinath said, “Dhoni always felt that roles are very important, and most of the time, mine was to get the team out of tough situations.”

MS Dhoni has been considered as one of the best captains in the IPL as under his captaincy, CSK won the coveted title three times and they reached the final for nine times out of the 12 editions they have played so far. In terms of winning the most amount of matches, Dhoni is leading the charts in the IPL.

Revealing the biggest strength of Dhoni as a captain, Badrinath also revealed that will always be ready to give a player that extra chance.

Badrinath explained, “My role was there in the middle order. The biggest strength of Dhoni is that he gives players that extra chance. If Dhoni believes Badri is good, that’s it. Badri is there. Once he believes it’s right, he sticks to the process. ‘I will give him chances, let him prove himself.”

He further explained, “Similarly, if he believes you are not good enough, even god cannot help you. Irrespective of how we’d performed, the owners treated us the same. Plus, we always had an amazing camaraderie and team environment our get togethers, the bosses would always be like ‘we know you’re a champion side’. We had MS Dhoni as our captain so it flowed from the top to Dhoni and to the team.”
