The artwork symbolises not just victory on the field but also the collective pride of a nation celebrating its daughters.

India’s victory on Sunday night was a result of pure determination and teamwork. Under Harmanpreet Kaur’s inspiring leadership, India lifted their maiden World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Defending a strong total of 298, India displayed composure under pressure as their bowlers executed the game plan to perfection.

The turning point came in the 42nd over, when South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, who had anchored the chase with a brilliant century, was dismissed by Deepti Sharma. In the same over, Chloe Tryon fell cheaply, leaving South Africa reeling with 78 runs still needed from 48 balls. Despite Nadine de Klerk’s late resistance, India bowled out South Africa for 246 in 45.3 overs, sparking scenes of jubilation across the stadium.

Deepti Sharma led the bowling charge with a match-winning five-wicket haul (5/39), while Shafali Verma played a vital all-round role, picking up two key wickets, including those of Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp, to shift momentum firmly in India’s favor. Earlier in the innings, India’s fielding brilliance was on display when Amanjot Kaur executed a sharp direct hit to run out Tazmin Brits, breaking South Africa’s solid opening stand.

With the bat, Shafali Verma’s fluent 87 and Deepti Sharma’s composed 58 anchored India’s innings. The opening partnership between Smriti Mandhana (45) and Shafali added 100 runs, setting the tone for a formidable total of 298/7 — the second-highest ever in a Women’s ODI World Cup final.

South Africa’s Ayabonga Khaka fought valiantly with 3 for 58, but India’s collective performance proved too strong. As Pattnaik’s sand art stands tall on Puri Beach, it serves as a lasting reminder of how the Women in Blue united a billion hearts and showcased the true power of Bharat Ki Nari Shakti.
