Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar, recognizing Bumrah’s leadership qualities, believes the pacer is well-suited to take over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma. Speaking during a conversation with 7Cricket, Gavaskar expressed his confidence in Bumrah’s ability to lead the side.

“He could be the next man. I think he will be the next man. He leads from the front and carries himself with the right kind of leadership aura, without putting undue pressure on his teammates,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

“With Bumrah, you can see that he expects the others to perform their role, but he doesn’t pressurize anyone,” Sunil Gavaskar added. The former captain also pointed out Bumrah’s supportive nature towards his fellow bowlers, often seen providing guidance while standing at mid-off or mid-on during matches.

Bumrah’s captaincy in the first Test against Australia was a standout moment. With Rohit Sharma absent due to injury, Bumrah took charge and showcased a keen tactical mind, setting proactive fields and rotating bowlers effectively. His calm and assertive leadership style was evident as India cruised to a 295-run victory.

Given his on-field leadership and strategic insights, it wouldn’t be surprising if Bumrah is considered for the full-time captaincy, especially for India’s upcoming red-ball series against England. As the Indian team looks ahead, Bumrah’s leadership potential seems undeniable, making him a strong candidate for future captaincy roles.
