Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar backs Rohit Sharma to score good runs in the upcoming Test series against England. He believes Rohit can score as many as three centuries in those five Test matches against England, which will begin from August 4 in Trent Bridge.

Rohit Sharma was revamped his Test career when he turned up as an opener against South Africa in 2019. He scored three centuries in that series and never looked back since then. He looked very comfortable against Australian pacers as well earlier this year and played some beautiful shots while in the middle.

Talking about Rohit’s trouble against the new ball, Sunil Gavaskar told The Cricket Analyst podcast, “In his case, it’s always the first two-three overs. Those are the overs where his front foot is not quite getting to the pitch of the ball. But a couple of overs down the road, once his front foot starts reaching the pitch of the ball, then he is very good.”

“Even in Australia, he didn’t score too many runs but the time he had to play their fast bowlers was amazing. These guys were bowling at 90 miles an hour but he actually made it look like 40 miles per hour. He had so much time to play.”

Team India has a good chance of winning a Test series in England after suffering successive defeats on the last three tours. Virat Kohli had a terrific tour last time when he scored 593 runs in five games but India lost the series by 4-1. However, India have a settled batting lineup this time and many believe this time India can come victorious.

Sunil Gavaskar backed Rohit to score as many as three hundreds against England.

“His thing is that all the time he is looking to attack. So sometimes, the shot selection is where he gets out. But if he gets that right, then he can get as many as three hundred in this five-Test series,” he added.
