The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is almost at its halfway stage and two of India’s biggest match-winners Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are yet to prove their worth. While Rohit Sharma has scored 114 runs in seven innings, Kohli has mustered only 119 runs in as many outings with strike-rate being pretty low as well. To make things worse for Rohit, his team Mumbai Indians is almost out of the playoffs race as well having lost all their seven matches thus far.

However, former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar reckons that both Rohit and Kohli to return to form soon. He felt that the MI skipper is the kind of a player who can plunder runs consistently. Gavaskar also noted that an in-form Rohit Sharma will certainly make a bigger impact on his team if they have to return to winning ways.

During a chat with Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, “Form is invariably one innings away. He has gone 7 innings without scoring the kind of runs that we all expect from him. But you can regain your form in just one inning. That’s what Mumbai Indians have to keep hoping for. What it will do also, it will make an impact on the rest of the team. When he scores runs, you can be pretty certain that the team will post big totals.”

He further added, “He is the kind of person who will go on to get into the 80s and 90s. His form is important for MI. It’s just one of those things. When somebody goes through a bad patch, then it’s difficult. You make simple mistakes, sometimes you get a great delivery, and you get to see a great catch taken. Sometimes an inside edge goes onto stump.”

As for Virat Kohli, Sunil Gavaskar reckoned that luck hasn’t favored him but backed both of India’s big players to score big. He also felt that it is just about reaching the 30s in one of the innings and they will find their groove.

Sunil Gavaskar said, “It’s happening to Kohli too. Kohli’s first mistake is turning out to be his last mistake. For both these players, it’s just a matter of one innings, one innings where you get to 30, once they get there, they will get the big score.”
