Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that it was good to see MS Dhoni batting up in the order at No. 4 for Chennai Super Kings in their recent match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai on Wednesday. They won by 18 runs and Gavaskar stated that Dhoni can only get better with this form if he continues to play up in the order as it will give him game time with the bat in the middle.

However, against KKR, Dhoni smashed 17 of 8 balls as well where Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis added 115 runs for the opening wicket. Later, Dhoni was hit a Prasidh Krishna delivery over the mid-wicket and showed his class.

“It is (special). The whole of India loves watching him bat. He has got something special. The more he gets to bat, the better he is going to be as the tournament progresses. And we will probably see a lot more sixes and boundaries coming off his bat the more we saw him bat at No. 4 or No. 5,” Gavaskar told Star Sports after CSK’s 18-run win.

MS Dhoni hit a quickfire 17 and made sure CSK did not lose the momentum after Moeen Ali’s 12-ball 25 and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 64. Dhoni got out in the penultimate over but Faf du Plessis (95 not out) made sure CSK put up a massive total of 220 on the board in the allotted 20 overs.

“He sussed up the situation very well. He realised that more than Rayudu, Raina or Jadeja, he was needed to keep the momentum going. That’s what he did with that little cameo of an innings. He made sure CSK didn’t take their foot off the accelerator,” Gavaskar again shared.
