Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has called out an online media outlet for publishing a fabricated column under his name. The website, Cricket Ception, recently published an article titled, “A New Era in Leadership: Bumrah’s Captaincy and Kohli’s Leadership Revive Team India”. However, Gavaskar was quick to refute any involvement in the piece.
Taking to his official Instagram handle, Sunil Gavaskar shared a video in which he firmly stated, “Hi, this is Sunil Gavaskar, and I want to say that there is a website, Cricket Ception, which has printed an article under my name. I have to say that it is completely fake. I have not contributed to that at all, and I want to tell that website to take it down immediately. Issue an apology. If you don’t do that, I will give the matter to my legal team. So, don’t believe a word of what you’ve read. This is a completely fake article attributed to me.”

The cricket legend did not hold back, warning the outlet of legal action if the article wasn’t removed promptly. He also urged his followers to exercise caution and verify information before trusting it.

The timing of the article added fuel to the fire, as it surfaced after an eventful first day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 opener at Perth’s Optus Stadium. On Day 1, India was bowled out for a modest 150 runs. Yet, under Jasprit Bumrah’s inspired leadership, the visitors fought back fiercely. Bumrah’s remarkable five-wicket haul dismantled the Australian batting lineup, restricting them to just 104 runs.

India’s resurgence didn’t stop there. By the end of Day 2, Indian openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal had forged an unbeaten 100-run partnership, extending the team’s lead and putting them in a commanding position. The controversy surrounding the article may have sparked online discussions, but the action on the field has been just as gripping. India now looks to capitalize on their strong foundation as the Test progresses.
