Sunil Gavaskar’s comments came after Maxwell played a fiery knock against Mumbai Indians (MI) and he picked a couple for wickets as well which helped RCB to register a 54-run win in Match 40 of IPL 2021 in Dubai. Maxwell went hammer and tongs, bringing out his reverse hits against MI in the middle-overs, hitting 3 sixes and 6 boundaries for a 37-ball 56.

Talking about Glenn Maxwell during a chat on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, “He seems a lot happier at RCB than last year. You can see that in his performance. If you are happy at a particular place, if you think I want to make a contribution, want to make a difference, then you go out and try your best. That’s what he is doing.”

In IPL 2021, Glenn Maxwell failed to hit a single six while playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS) and managed just 108 runs from 13 matches. Sunil Gavaskar said he feels match-winners Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers made sure that Maxwell doesn’t field and it’s allowing him to perform with freedom for RCB in IPL 2021.

Describing the same, Sunil Gavaskar said, “I think he is happy in the company of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Maybe those two have taken the pressure of expectations from him. When he was at the Punjab Kings, the pressure of expectation was on him to turn the games around. But he knows he has got two match-winners in AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli and the pressure is not only on him.”

RCB retained the 3rd spot on the points table after their massive win over MI on Sunday. Virat Kohli and his men are well-placed to reach the play-offs, having won 6 out of their first 10 matches.
