Legendary Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar has opined his thoughts on the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul, saying that he can be the finisher of his team in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Rahul is currently opening the innings alongside Quinton De Kock for LSG. Even before joining LSG, he was the opener for the Punjab Kings.

Sunil Gavaskar reckons that Rahul will be the right fit to play the finisher’s role as well for his team as he praised his ability to hit the shots across all parts of the ground in the death overs. There have been instances in the editions of the IPL that Rahul has stayed on the crease till the death overs after opening the innings.

During a show on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, “KL Rahul is such an integral part of any team. He opens the batting and gets to bat 20 overs and sets the pace for his team. I believe he has the ability to be the finisher as well. He’s not just somebody who can begin the innings and get the team off to a good start. He has all the shots in the book to finish it off as well. So if he gets going till the 15th-16th over, then LSG can post 200-plus on the board.”

LSG has won and lost a game so far. They lost their first outing against their fellow newcomers Gujarat Titans (GT) but balanced it out after defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a thrilling encounter. Rahul played some big shots in the game against CSK, after being dismissed for a duck in his first game against GT.
