The Indian batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar doesn’t seem to be worried about the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane as the latter will be leading the Indian team after Virat Kohli’s departure following the first Test in the upcoming 4-Test against Australia. Gavaskar reckons that Rahane has had the experience of leading the team and he won’t be taking extra burden, considering it’s only a short-term appointment for the vice-captain.
Virat Kohli will be coming back to be heading back to India on paternity leave after the series opener, which will be a day-night fixture in Adelaide. Kohli, who led the Indian team to the series win T20Is in Australia, will be with his wife and Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma for the birth of their first child.

Rahane has begun his Australia tour on a high as he led India well in the two practice matches, including the pink-ball warm-up match at the Sydney Cricket Ground and he scored a brilliant century in the first warm-up fixture at the Drummoyne Oval.
Talking about the same on Star Sports Sunil Gavaskar had said, “There is no real pressure on Ajinkya Rahane, because both the times that he has led the team, he has won. He led against Australia at Dharamshala and India won. He led against Afghanistan and India won. So, as far as his captaincy is concerned, there is going to be no pressure because he knows he is at the moment, only the stand-in captain for the 3 Test matches.”
He further added, “So, I don’t think the fact about being a captain or carrying on as captain is going to be part of his thinking at all. He will do the job as honestly as he plays his cricket, which means, as a batsman, he will go out there and try and let Pujara try and grind the opposition in and play a few more shots maybe.”
