Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar reckons that in the Syndey Test against Australia, Rohit Sharma should open the innings with Mayank Agarwal. Rohit will join the team ahead of the third Test. Rohit’s inclusion in the squad will be a big boost for the visitors. However, one player will have to make way for Rohit in the playing XI. Gavaskar reckons Shubman Gill should bat in the middle order and Hanuma Vihari should be dropped for the third Test.
During a chat with Sony Sports, Gavaskar said, “I will have Mayank-Rohit opening, Gill in the middle order, and Vihari goes out for the third Test.”

It is interesting to note that both Mayank and Vihari have not been able to prove their worth but the former India skipper backed Mayank over Vihari. While Mayank has scored 31 runs in four innings, Vihari aggregated 45 in three in the ongoing Test series. Gavaskar also lauded Rahane for his responsible century and said the ton will go down as one of the most important centuries in the history of Indian cricket.
During a chat on Channel 7, Sunil Gavaskar said, “I believe that this hundred is going to be one of the most important hundreds in the history of Indian cricket.”

After India’s thumping win in the Boxing Day Test, the four-match series is level at 1-1. The Sydney Cricket Ground will be hosting the 3rd Test, starting January 7. India had suffered an 8-wicket win in the first Test after suffering registering their lowest total in Tests.
