Legendary Indian batter, Sunil Gavaskar has showered praises on Jaydev Unadkat for picking up his maiden Test wicket on Day 1 of the opening Test between India and Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Unadkat managed to get the wicket of the opening batter, Zakir Hasan in the first session and had figures of 7-0-20-1 at Lunch.

The southpaw made his comeback to Test cricket after a gap of more than 12 years after he made his Test debut against South Africa way back in 2010.  The 73-year-old Gavaskar also said that the hint of grass didn’t quite go Unadkat’s way after batters rode their luck.

During a chat on Sony Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, “Even in the first over that he bowled, he got the ball to nip back in and bounce. If there was a forward short leg, maybe he would have got a wicket earlier on. He was also unlucky that a couple of edges flew away from the fielders.”

He further added, “Good to see him taking his first wicket and, hopefully, it’s the first of many because he brings a left-hand variety into the attack. He is using his height well, he is banging the ball just short of a length, not looking to bowl the bouncer. And look at those figures.”

After Jaydev Unadkat opened his account in Tests by removing Zakir, who scored a hundred in the opening Test in Chattogram, Ravi Ashwin got the wicket of Najmul Hossain Shanto.
