Legendary Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar is one of the commentators for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. Only five matches have happened in the tournament so far, and it is tough to predict which four teams will be able to make it to the playoffs. But Gavaskar gave his predictions and picked the four franchises that may make it to the next round.

Sunil Gavaskar felt that the Royal Challengers Bangalore may not make it to the playoffs in 2022. RCB qualified for the next round in the last couple of IPL seasons. Instead of RCB, he felt that former five-time champions Mumbai Indians will join the three teams that made it to the IPL 2021 playoffs in the IPL 2022 playoffs.

Commenting on his picks for the playoffs, during a chat on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said: “Of course Mumbai Indians. I think Delhi Capitals, the way they have progressed in the last couple years is impressive. Then I think it could be Kolkata Knight Riders because they are a very very good team. And I am hoping for Jaddu’s sake that Chennai Super Kings could be the fourth team.”

On the same show, former Chennai Super Kings opener Matthew Hayden was present as well and he also made his picks for the top four teams of the season. Hayden said that instead of Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore would make it to the playoffs along with CSK, DC, and KKR.

Hayden expects the same four teams to make it to the playoffs that year which made it last year in the 2021 season. Interestingly, none of the two former cricketers picked the two new franchises Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans as probable candidates for the Top 4 teams. It will be exciting to see whose prediction proves accurate.
